This 50-minute walking experience invites guests to explore Eleanor Ford’s beloved Rose Garden, the Formal Garden, the Recreation Building, and other key outdoor areas that reflect the family’s vision for relaxation and refined living. Led by a knowledgeable guide, the tour brings to life the stories behind the estate’s original design — including the work of renowned architect Albert Kahn and pioneering landscape designer Jens Jensen.
Throughout the Gardens and Recreation Guided Tour, you’ll discover how the Ford family used these outdoor spaces for play, reflection, and recreation. From the sunken rose beds to the shoreline terraces and meadow paths, each stop reveals a new layer of history in bloom.
Please note: this is a moderate walking tour over gravel, grass, and uneven terrain. It is not recommended for those with mobility challenges. Guests should dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Tickets for the Gardens and Recreation Guided Tour are limited and should be reserved in advance. Your ticket includes full Grounds Admission for the day.
