What Is Storytime at Ford House?

Welcome to Storytime at Ford House, where stories come alive in a magical setting that sparks creativity and connection for even the youngest visitors.

Designed especially for children ages 7 and younger, this interactive program invites families to slow down, snuggle up, and step into a world of books, movement, and play — all set against the inspiring backdrop of Eleanor and Edsel Ford’s historic lakeside estate.

Each Storytime session features a thoughtfully curated picture book, interactive elements, and hands-on activities encouraging early literacy, social development, and joyful exploration.

Why Storytime Matters

Early exposure to books and storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have for nurturing a child’s curiosity, confidence, and communication skills.

At Ford House, we believe in the power of story to connect generations, build empathy, and help children see the world through different eyes.

Our Storytime program is more than just reading aloud. It’s about creating shared experiences that inspire wonder and make lasting memories. Whether your child hears a favorite tale for the hundredth time or discovers a new character to love, each visit helps them grow as readers and imaginative thinkers.

What to Expect

Every Storytime experience is designed with comfort, care, and creativity in mind:

  • Cozy, child-friendly setting in our Visitor Center and plenty of space to wiggle and explore.

  • Rotating book selections featuring diverse characters, big feelings, silly adventures, and heartfelt moments. Enjoy a new story every month!

  • There will be hands-on activities after the story, designed to help children express themselves and deepen the themes of the day’s book.

  • Gentle transitions and flexible pacing allow children to engage at their comfort level — whether they sit close or roam a little.

  • Snacks and drinks are available for purchase from The Speedster.

A Safe, Welcoming Space for All

We know that for many families, comfort and care are just as important as fun. That’s why we’ve created an environment that supports children’s needs — and their grown-ups’ too. Our team is experienced with young learners and warmly welcomes noise, questions, and the wiggles. We also offer:

  • On-site restrooms with changing stations

  • Ample stroller parking

  • Snacks and drinks available from our café

  • Accessible facilities and seating for guests of all ages and abilities
